LEVELS OF INTEGRATION: CAN WE HAVE A LITTLE BIT MORE?
System integration can be broken down into four levels, which vary in terms of complexity, costs, and benefits. TRANSCONNECT® covers all of these four integration levels.
1. Data integration
This step starts every integration project. If a company does not have a comprehensive enterprise database, then, as a minimum option, the many internal databases should be linked, so that they can exchange data. The databases can be linked either completely (complete synchronization) or selectively (selective synchronization).
This practice is considered risky for a good reason. On the one hand, database inconsistencies may arise in the application systems; on the other, the stored data volumes often prove to be too large to perform complete synchronizations.

2. Complex Event Processing
Complex Event Processing takes place when an integration system detects states in the transported and transformed data streams, and triggers specified events on this basis. This level allows mapping of conditions or rules for data synchronization, and triggering further processing steps depending on the situation.

3. APPLICATION INTEGRATION
Process automation quickly reaches its limits when data is simply exchanged between the systems. For example, integrated systems must process the data sets they receive according to their logic. Application integration makes it possible to automatically start selected functions within the integrated systems, to further process the results, and to monitor the processing of results. This facilitates the automation of so-called swivel chair interfaces and the manual recording of data that is often associated with them. Business processes that run across multiple application systems can thus be digitized almost completely.

4. PROCESS INTEGRATION
In most companies, processes are performed differently than planned. The deviations result from the need to continuously optimize processes and adjust them to market conditions. Integration projects look even more complex, when new releases of the applications controlling the process in the company are taken into account, or when one considers that the system landscape does not stand still.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE
Nowadays, anyone looking for integration tools is spoiled for choice. The range of tools is as diverse as the framework conditions for integration projects. There is software that can be used to easily connect a set of predefined systems using drag & drop. Some systems focus on management of microservices, which need to be programmed. TRANSCONNECT® combines both approaches.

INTERFACES
There is no silver bullet for technical connection of systems. The respective integration scenarios, and the expectations associated with them, vary too widely. In principle, a distinction is made between universal adapters and special adapters for specific systems. The latter are required, in particular, for proprietary systems and predefined integration scenarios.
